Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 12th district since 2019, has recently taken to social media to express her positions on several pressing issues. Tlaib, who has a background in law and public service, highlighted concerns ranging from domestic policy to international human rights.

On May 6, 2025, Congresswoman Tlaib announced her participation in a legislative maneuver by signing a discharge petition. This action aims to compel the House of Representatives to conduct an “up-or-down vote” on measures designed to safeguard Medicaid and food assistance programs from proposed Republican budget reductions. She emphasized her stance with the declaration: “Hands off Medicaid and SNAP!”

Later that day, Tlaib addressed an event involving federal workers who were dismissed during the Trump Administration. She described their termination as both illegal and unjust. These individuals gathered at the Capitol steps to draw attention to their plight. In this context, she remarked that they are not subjects for experimentation by figures like Elon Musk but rather “real people with families,” asserting that “they deserve better.”

On May 7, 2025, Tlaib turned her focus towards international matters by criticizing what she describes as actions of the Israeli government against Palestinians. She accused Israel of employing starvation as a tactic in warfare and labeled these actions as war crimes. Furthermore, she claimed U.S. complicity in what she termed genocide and urged for accountability through an arms embargo while stating: “Don’t stop demanding accountability.”

Tlaib’s educational background includes a BA from Wayne State University and a JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Born in Detroit in 1976, she continues to reside there today.
