Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her social media accounts highlighting her engagements with local communities and addressing issues impacting her constituents.

On August 25, 2025, Tlaib shared her reflections from an educational event, stating, “The brilliance of the students at the 27th Annual Scholarship Awards was inspiring. Their parents were full of joy seeing their children achieve their dreams.”

The following day, August 26, she expressed gratitude for being included in a local meeting and raised concerns about federal policy impacts: “Thank you Inkster Councilwoman Richardson for inviting us to give a federal update. Connecting with Inkster residents to talk about the challenges families are facing. Trump’s cuts threaten essential programs, and we must always put our families first.”

On August 27, Tlaib commented on activism at the University of Michigan (UM), criticizing actions by university officials against student organizers: “UM students and workers organizing for divestment from Israel’s genocide and a Free Palestine have been met with violent suppression, surveillance, and slander from UM officials. Today I joined community members to demand an end to UM’s biased, targeted retribution campaign.”

Tlaib has served as the representative for Michigan’s 12th district since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. She previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives between 2009 and 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
