Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing political accountability, musicians’ wages, and healthcare funding.

On August 1, 2025, Tlaib called for greater accountability among politicians, stating: “Stop enabling lawlessness. Your friends don’t get a free pass on abuses of power. Corrupt politicians everywhere, including the U.S., need to be held accountable.”

Turning her attention to the music industry on August 4, she wrote: “Music artists make, on average, only $0.003 to $0.005 per stream, yet platforms like Spotify made over $1.3 billion in profits in 2024.

Let’s pass my Living Wage for Musicians Act to take on corporate greed in the music industry and give musicians the fair pay they deserve.”

Later that same day, Tlaib commented on recent budget reductions affecting healthcare services: “The extreme budget cuts have left dialysis patients fighting for their lives. I’m proud to stand with them and push for the justice and the care they deserve.”

Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones and previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. She was born in Detroit in 1976 and continues to reside there. Tlaib earned her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University and later received a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
