Rashida Tlaib, U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 12th district since 2019, has addressed issues ranging from constitutional rights to labor policy and community loss in a series of recent social media posts.
On February 5, 2026, Tlaib voiced concerns about the current administration’s approach to civil liberties. She stated, “Every day we continue to see our constitutional rights shredded under this administration. Birthright citizenship, due process, and equal protection aren’t up for debate. We must defend the 14th Amendment.”
Later that same day, Tlaib paid tribute to Ismael Ahmed, a community leader and activist. She wrote, “Rest in power, Ish Man. You will truly be missed, Ismael Ahmed. Your legacy will live on. Thank you for your decades of service and leadership. You can rest now, my friend.”
On February 6, 2026, Tlaib turned her attention to economic issues facing American families. She highlighted challenges with paid leave by stating, “Working families are facing an affordability crisis. 73% of workers can’t take paid time off from their jobs if they get sick, have a child, or need to care for a loved one. I am tired of the excuses. It’s time for universal paid leave.”
Tlaib was born in Detroit in 1976 and continues to reside there today. She holds degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School and previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives before her election to Congress.
