Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on August 6, 2025, addressing public health concerns and commemorating the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

In her first post at 14:09 UTC, Tlaib directed constituents to resources for safeguarding their health: “For more information about recommended actions to protect your health visit: https://t.co/FiZdCcoWyJ”.

Later that day at 14:29 UTC, she highlighted air quality issues in Southeast Michigan and criticized state environmental policies: “Southeast Michigan has had some of the worst air quality in the world this week. This is exactly why it’s harmful when EGLE excludes wildfires from their analysis of ozone pollution. We cannot normalize this. We need stronger protections, not loopholes that put our public health https://t.co/KViIjAyQEM”.

At 17:32 UTC, Tlaib marked the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing with a call for peace and nuclear disarmament: “80 years ago, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing tens of thousands of people instantly and leaving generations to suffer. We must honor the victims by working for peace, a world free from nuclear weapons, and an end to endless war.”

Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones. She previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there, Tlaib earned her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in 1998 and later received her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2004.
