A panel discussion at the 2025 Mackinac Policy Conference will feature leaders from the group aiming to bring a WNBA team back to Detroit. The effort is led by Pistons Owner Tom Gores and his wife, Holly Gores, who have partnered with notable figures in Detroit’s business, sports, and entertainment sectors. Their bid for a WNBA expansion franchise aims to stimulate economic growth and create positive community impacts.

The panel will be moderated by Suzanne Shank of Siebert Williams Shank & Co. Participants include Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Swin Cash-Canal, Grant Hill—another Hall of Famer and investor in the Detroit WNBA project—Sandy Pierce, a corporate board executive and CEO advisor, and Arn Tellem from Pistons Sports and Entertainment. They will discuss the collaborative efforts behind their bid and how an expansion franchise could benefit Detroit both economically and socially.
