Senator Michael Webber, representing Rochester Hills, has expressed his support for a bipartisan legislative measure aimed at maintaining Michigan’s Sex Offender Registration Act. This move comes in response to a court order that could have resulted in the removal of over 30,000 individuals from the state’s sex offender registry during the summer.

Webber emphasized the importance of safeguarding residents, particularly vulnerable groups, stating: “We have a moral obligation as legislators to protect those we serve, especially the most vulnerable. For more than 30 years, the sex offender registry has played a critical role in keeping Michigan families safe.”

The legislation aims to ensure compliance with legal standards while prioritizing public safety. Webber added: “This bipartisan legislation would ensure we are following the law while also protecting public safety. I will always work with anyone to do what’s right to build up stronger families and stronger communities throughout our state.”
