The Michigan Senate has adopted a resolution introduced by Senator Joseph Bellino to recognize the contributions of Catholic schools in the state. The resolution, known as Senate Resolution 89, establishes January 25-31 as Catholic Schools Week in Michigan.
“We are celebrating the more than 50,000 students currently attending over 200 Catholic elementary and high schools across our great state,” said Bellino, R-Monroe. “Catholic schools instill a broad, values-based education, emphasizing the lifelong development of moral, intellectual and social values in young people — making them responsible citizens of our state and nation.”
Bellino highlighted that many students attending these schools are not Catholic or come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He stated, “We support the continued dedication of Catholic schools across Michigan toward academic excellence and the key role they play in promoting and ensuring a brighter, stronger future for our students and our communities. These schools also educate many students who are non-Catholic and many who are economically disadvantaged — understanding that a good education remains the single best way out of poverty.”
A video of Bellino’s address is expected to be available at SenatorJosephBellino.com/video.
