Schwartz emphasized the importance of overcoming the fear of failure and using setbacks as learning opportunities. Ward shared his experiences with launching TiiCKER, highlighting concepts such as “day science” and “night science.” He explained that day science involves building a user-focused platform, while night science requires careful financial management to maintain investor relationships. “As an executive, you go to be involved enough in the day science to make sure it works, but strategically, you got to raise your eyes enough to see six months, a year down the road,” Ward stated.
Wallace discussed challenges in securing early-stage funding for her startup, noting these difficulties can persist even as businesses grow.
Chang addressed why one should consider launching a startup in Michigan by highlighting West Michigan as an emerging innovation hub. He aims to be a catalyst in this transformation. Schwartz emphasized being part of “the comeback of a great American city,” pointing out Michigan’s passion for this mission.
