On March 22, 2024, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspected La Michoacana, Inc. in Detroit and issued six citations related to foodborne biological hazards, according to data posted on the FDA’s website.
The FDA website indicates that the citations were delivered to the company as follows:
- ‘You did not clean and sanitize your utensils or equipment in a manner that protects against contamination.’
- ‘You did not exclude pests from your food plant to protect against contamination of food.’
- ‘Your equipment and utensils were not designed and constructed to be adequately cleaned or maintained to protect against contamination.’
- ‘Your hazard analysis did not identify a hazard that required a preventive control.’
- ‘Your written process preventive control and monitoring procedures were not appropriate to significantly minimize or prevent the hazard requiring a preventive control.’
- ‘You did not establish a written supply-chain program.’
The FDA routinely inspects facilities across the nation to determine if the workplace and their products are compliant with FDA-regulated laws and regulations implemented to improve overall public health. Inspection results are then disclosed publicly.
According to its website, the FDA is a government agency that is primarily responsible for monitoring the production and distribution of human and animal drugs, biological products, medical supplies and tobacco products for safety and quality.
