The Detroit Lions have confirmed the signing of safety Kerby Joseph to a contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2029 season. Details regarding the financial terms of the contract were not released.

Joseph, now entering his fourth year with the Lions, had an impressive season in 2024. He led the NFL with nine interceptions, becoming the first Lions safety since Jack Christiansen in 1957 to achieve such a feat along with a pick-six. Furthermore, he was recognized as First-Team AP All-Pro, marking him as the first Lions safety to earn this honor since Yale Lary in 1962.

Joseph joined the NFL as a third-round draft pick (97th overall) from Illinois in 2022. Over his career so far, he has participated in 49 games, starting 46 of them. His career stats include 237 tackles (179 solo), 31 pass defenses, and two forced fumbles. Joseph’s record of 17 interceptions is unmatched by any player over the past three seasons and ties him for most pass defenses among NFL safeties. He also became notable for being the first safety since Ed Reed (2002-04) to secure at least four interceptions in each of his first three seasons.
