Grand Valley State University and the Michigan Educator Workforce Initiative have joined forces with the Detroit Regional Talent Compact. The initiative, led by the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Detroit Drives Degrees program, aims to improve education and equity in the region.
Philomena V. Mantella, President of Grand Valley State University, and Jack Elsey, Founder and CEO of Michigan Educator Workforce Initiative, have signed on to this effort. The Compact seeks to increase the postsecondary attainment rate in the Detroit Region to 60% while reducing racial equity gaps by half by 2030.
The Compact was launched in October 2020 with statewide and regional partners announcing strategies and commitments toward achieving these goals. The focus is on providing access to education, enhancing student success in postsecondary programs, supporting adults entering or returning to college, and aiding regional businesses in retaining and upskilling their workforce while attracting new talent.
