Detroit Animal Care has partnered with BISSELL Pet Foundation to host and fund Detroit’s first-ever free spay/neuter clinic in Detroit, taking place today through June 4th, with the goal of sterilizing 120 dogs. Dogs spayed and neutered at the three-day event will also receive age-appropriate vaccinations, including rabies and a microchip.
The clinic is being held to help alleviate shelter overcrowding by preventing unwanted litter.
“We are excited to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation to provide this spay/neuter event to Detroiters’ pets,” said Mark Kumpf, director of Detroit Animal Care and Control. “Saving lives through community collaboration!”
“With shelters and rescues at capacity, the need for spay/neuter is critical. Proactive pet sterilization procedures address the root cause of animal overpopulation by preventing unwanted births,” said Cathy BISSELL, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “We are committed to impacting the lives of both homeless and owned pets in Detroit by making spay/neuter services more accessible to the community.”
All appointments are filled for the three-day event; no walk-ins are available. It is anticipated that additional events will be scheduled, thanks to Detroit Animal Care’s ongoing partnership with BISSELL Pet Foundation. Just this year alone, BISSELL Pet Foundation has awarded $673,555 to change the lives of Detroit pets through spay/neuter, sponsored adoptions, transport and emergency support
