On June 12, the Detroit Regional Chamber collaborated with The Detroit News to host the annual Michiganian of the Year awards. The event recognized notable individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields.

This year’s honorees included Pistons broadcaster George Blaha, Lions head coach Dan Campbell, and food pantry founder Rev. Geoffrey Drutchas. Artist Tiff Massey and Zekelman Holocaust Center Chief Executive Officer Eli Mayerfeld were also acknowledged for their achievements.

Other recipients were WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) general manager Mike Murri, Michigan Tech biologist Rolf Peterson, Skillman Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Angelique Power, Tuskegee Airmen historian Brian R. Smith, and philanthropist Ellen Thompson.

The event continues a tradition of honoring leaders from diverse sectors such as community service, business, arts, and athletics. Past awardees include prominent figures like Sandy K. Baruah, President and CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber.
