The Detroit Regional Chamber announced that Megan Spanitz will step into the dual role of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer effective July 1, succeeding Tammy Carnrike who is set to retire on June 30.

Spanitz’s long history with the Chamber dates back to 1999. She has held numerous positions focused on areas like communications, brand awareness, customer engagement, and fundraising. Currently, Spanitz is pivotal in driving revenue growth, operational efficiency, and strategic planning within the organization. Additionally, she plays a crucial role in the core team responsible for the Mackinac Policy Conference, contributing significantly to the event’s heightened profile over the past decade.

“Given Megan’s double-decade tenure and impact at the Chamber, she is the logical choice to lead the organization’s operations and strategy into the future, and has the strong support of our Board’s leadership in doing so,” said Sandy K. Baruah, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Over the next few months, as the Chamber team prepares for Tammy’s departure, we will determine how to optimize the role to Megan’s experience and to continue maximizing impact and relevance, creating new efficiencies, and ensuring strong stewardship and the long-term sustainability of one of the nation’s most historic and largest business advocacy organizations.”

Under the leadership of Spanitz, the Chamber plans to build on its achievements, having doubled its revenue in the last ten years and ranking among the top three business chambers nationally. Spanitz is expected to be an essential contributor to the Chamber’s future. “I look forward to the leadership Megan will provide in the years to come,” Baruah added.
