The Detroit Red Wings have announced the launch of their Centennial celebration, marking 100 years since the team’s founding in 1926. The celebration will begin with the 2025–26 NHL season and aims to honor the franchise’s history and championship legacy.

The Centennial, presented by Meijer, will include a series of events and alumni appearances, original exclusive content releases, a commemorative jersey design unveiling, and community initiatives. Chris Ilitch, Governor and CEO of the Detroit Red Wings, stated that “Reaching this Centennial milestone creates a unique opportunity to tell the story of our legends, teams and the incredible fans who continue to make Detroit: Hockeytown.”

The Red Wings’ history includes notable achievements such as winning 11 Stanley Cups, more than 3,000 franchise wins, a streak of 25 consecutive playoff appearances from 1991 to 2016, having 1,021 players wear their jersey since 1926, and being represented by 83 Hall of Famers. Steve Yzerman holds the record for most games as captain in NHL history with 1,303 games over 19 seasons.

Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment said that “The vision for Centennial was to create opportunities for fans to relive their favorite moments and celebrate the people that make Red Wings hockey so special.” He also mentioned that additional details about further programming would be shared in the coming months.

Key events include HockeytownCentennial FanFest from November 6–9 at MotorCity Casino and Hotel; “100 Years of Hockeytown: A Night at the Fox Theatre” during FanFest weekend; unveiling of a new Centennial jersey in late summer 2025; a season-long exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum; and a Community Rink Program partnering with communities throughout Michigan.

A Centennial book is also planned to capture significant moments from Red Wings history. More information on these celebrations can be found on DetroitRedWings.com/100 or through Red Wings social media channels.
