The Detroit Public Schools Community District recognized Teacher Appreciation Week on May 4, inviting families and students to celebrate teachers throughout the week. The district also announced plans to honor educators for the entire month.

The recognition highlights the role of teachers in supporting student success. The district said its teachers are dedicated professionals who contribute to positive outcomes for students.

“ALTHOUGH WE WILL BE CELEBRATING ALL MONTH, DPSCD teachers are the hardest working teachers who show up to ensure our students succeed, they will because they can. We know our teachers have the highest retention rate in Southeast Michigan, our teachers want to be here, and our outcomes are proving it. Thank you, DPSCD Teachers, for all that you do to help our students realize their dreams,” said Angelique Peterson-Mayberry.

In addition to honoring educators, the district encouraged families and students to thank their favorite teacher during this week of celebration. The message also included a reminder about Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10.

The district invited community members to tag them on social media and share stories that could be featured in an upcoming issue of the DPSCD Parent Newsletter.
