Detroit City Football Club is set to host Birmingham Legion FC in their 2025 home opener this Saturday. The match at Keyworth Stadium will commence at 4 p.m. ET and can be watched live on ESPN+ and CW Detroit 50. Michigan residents can also stream the game for free via CBSDetroit.com.
Detroit City FC enters the match following a 2-1 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, the reigning USL Championship title-holders. After falling behind early in the second half, forward Darren Smith equalized with his first goal for Detroit City. Sebastián Guenzatti’s effort, later credited as an own goal by Colorado’s keeper, secured victory for Le Rouge in the 82nd minute.
Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Haruki Yamazaki made their debuts for Detroit City against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday and have been assigned their Le Rouge Legacy Numbers.
This game marks the start of Detroit City’s tenth season at Keyworth Stadium.
Birmingham Legion begins this match with a record of 0-1-1 for the 2025 season. They lost their opening game to Loudoun United with a score of 3-1 but managed a draw against Louisville City FC last weekend, thanks to Ronaldo Damus’s equalizer during stoppage time in the first half.
On Wednesday night, Birmingham faced Little Rock Rangers in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup’s first round but was defeated 1-0 after managing only three shots on target throughout the match.
Last year, both teams won away matches when they faced each other. In June at Keyworth Stadium, Rhys Williams scored first for Birmingham before they claimed victory with two late goals. However, Detroit City avenged that loss two months later when Brett Levis scored to secure a win in Birmingham.
Following this weekend’s home opener, Detroit City will travel next weekend to play against Louisville City FC and return to Keyworth Stadium in two weeks to face Monterey Bay FC. Tickets are available at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
