Detroit City Football Club secured a 1-0 win against Kalamazoo FC on Saturday night, continuing their strong performance in the USL W League. The decisive moment came when Ella Karolak scored with a header in the 68th minute. Goalkeeper Allison Lapoint achieved her fourth consecutive clean sheet.

In the initial stages of the match, Detroit City faced challenges as Kalamazoo created several dangerous opportunities. Lapoint made two significant saves within the first ten minutes to keep her team in contention.

As the first half progressed, Detroit began to control possession, particularly in midfield. Despite Sophia Romine’s efforts to create scoring chances, they were unable to capitalize and remained goalless at halftime.

After the break, Detroit maintained dominance during the opening ten minutes and forced three corner kicks but failed to convert them into goals.

Substitutions were made in the 63rd minute with Kate Childers, Mira Webster, and Camryn Evans replacing Drew Martin, Acadia Murphy, and Hannah Crum. This strategic change led to Karolak’s goal after a deflection from Kalamazoo’s goalkeeper.

The final substitution for DCFC occurred in the 75th minute when Emily Pagett replaced Danielle Stephan.

With this victory, Detroit City is now second in the USL W League Great Lakes division with 10 points, trailing AFC Ann Arbor by three points. They will play two away games before returning home for a match against AFC Ann Arbor on June 21st at Keyworth Stadium. Tickets are available at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
