Deacon Charles “Bob” Dreyer died on April 10 at the age of 89, according to an announcement released on April 13. He is survived by two children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary Kay, preceded him in death.
Dreyer was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on October 6, 2007. He first served at St. Maurice Parish in Livonia until 2009 before moving to St. William Parish in Walled Lake, where he remained until his retirement in 2021.
Visitation for Deacon Dreyer will be held Thursday, April 16 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home in Walled Lake with a scripture service scheduled for 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place Friday, April 17 at St. William Parish beginning with visitation at the church starting at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m.
The Archdiocese of Detroit has asked that prayers for Deacon Dreyer be included in general intercessions during weekend liturgies and condolences may be sent to Lynch and Sons Funeral Home.
The Diocese of Detroit was established in 1833, predating Michigan’s statehood by four years; it became an archdiocese under Pope Pius XI in 1937 and now covers several counties including Oakland and Wayne Counties.
