Additionally, Oakland County is focused on providing training and employment opportunities for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
Wayne County, under the leadership of Executive Warren Evans, is experiencing population growth, which he described as a positive indicator. The county has allocated $20 million to the “Wayne Link” job training program designed to align college curricula with employer demands. Evans also noted the county’s efforts to assess and prepare for the impact of federal funding cuts on nonprofits, while expanding healthcare programs and medical debt assistance.
Macomb County, led by Executive Mark Hackel, is actively increasing its workforce capabilities. With 450,000 individuals in the workforce and 44,000 job vacancies, the county collaborates with community partners and educational institutions like the Macomb Community College to attract talent to the region. Hackel is particularly eager about the county’s mental health and substance use initiatives at the Macomb County Jail.
