Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 12th district since 2019, shared her views on various political issues through a series of tweets on May 16, 2025. Her social media posts addressed healthcare policy debates, the impact of abortion laws in Georgia, and environmental health concerns.

On May 16, Tlaib commented on the internal disagreements among Republicans regarding Medicaid cuts. She stated that they were “arguing with each other about how many millions of people to cut from Medicaid and failed to pass their budget out of committee.” “We will continue fighting back,” she affirmed.

Later that day, Tlaib highlighted the case of Adriana Smith, who has been brain dead for over 90 days but remains on life support due to Georgia’s abortion ban. She relayed the family’s distress by quoting Smith’s mother: “Her mother said that it’s torture.” “No family should have to endure this horror,” Tlaib concluded.

In another post, Tlaib criticized a decision made during the Trump Administration regarding environmental protections. She described it as “disgraceful” and harmful to public health because it affects more than 100 million people whose water is contaminated with PFAS chemicals. “Clean water is a human right,” she asserted.

Rashida Tlaib was born in Detroit in 1976 and continues to reside there. She holds a BA from Wayne State University and a JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Before serving in Congress, she was part of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014.
