Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 12th district since 2019, has recently voiced her concerns on various issues through a series of tweets. Born in Detroit in 1976, Tlaib has been active in political and social matters, drawing attention to significant national debates.

On June 13, 2025, Congresswoman Tlaib addressed the issue of presidential authority concerning military action. She stated that “The president cannot circumvent congressional war powers and unilaterally send U.S. troops to war with Iran.” Tlaib emphasized this as a violation of Article I of the Constitution, which mandates congressional approval for declaring war. She further expressed the American public’s opposition to entering another prolonged conflict.

Later that day, she criticized the treatment of immigrants by stating that “Sending our immigrant neighbors to Guantanamo is despicable and inhumane.” Highlighting Guantanamo Bay as a symbol of torture and dehumanization, she announced her initiative to circulate a letter urging colleagues to support closing the facility permanently.

On June 15, 2025, Tlaib took time on Father’s Day to express gratitude towards fathers everywhere. In her tweet she wrote: “Taking a moment this Father’s Day to thank all of our fathers—no matter if you are called dad, baba, or papa.” Additionally, she shared her experience welcoming fathers advocating for Black maternal health at an event known as the People’s House. Their testimonies had a profound emotional impact on her.

Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School and has been serving in Congress since succeeding Brenda Jones in 2019.
